Retford Cricket & Sports Club 1850-2005
A Message from your Chairman
As another season gets under way, I am delighted to welcome all members to the Club once again. Last year was without doubt one of the Club’s more successful ones and ended with our Sunday League side securing promotion, our Bassetlaw League side just missing promotion and our Premier League side maintaining their status with relative ease – this despite some administrative difficulties.
As with all things in life, things change, and everyone at the Club would wish to join me in thanking Steve Musgrove for his considerable efforts on the field of play over many years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. As one door closes, another opens and we look forward to Nigel Hall’s re-emergence as Captain of the Club. I wish Nigel every success and good fortune for 2005.
It is most pleasing that the Club is able to continue in three competitions in this day and age – just rewards for those who work tirelessly during the close season to maintain and recruit - and, speaking of maintenance, much necessary work has been carried out on the club house this Winter – well done to all concerned.
Our fund-raising efforts last year again broke all previous records and we were able to make substantial donations to local charities. It is most important that the Club continues in this tradition, supporting and contributing to those in need in the town of its origins. This is what marks the Club as more than merely a sporting venue and results in it becoming an integral part of the community where all are assured of a warm welcome and a friendly word.
I repeat my plea for youngsters to join us; those already here are the future of the Club – the more the merrier!
Finally, my best wishes to all players, scorers, caterers, Social Committee members and all others who, together, make this Club what it is. Good luck for 2005, and, whatever else, I hope you all enjoy some excellent cricket!
Michael Gray , Chairman
